Sweet Blossom came to be after I was convinced by my partner to craft Mother’s Day flower arrangements that would help raise money through the Columbus foundation for local families that had been affected by Covid-19. After the overwhelming support from the fundraiser, SB blossomed into what it is today. Connecting with communities has sustained my business and coupled me with fellow entrepreneurs and local non-profits in the process.
One of the people in particular that I was able to connect with, was Nikki McCarthy, founder of Sam’s Fans, a local non-profit dedicated to the promotion of music and art therapy for seriously ill children. She had asked us to design the florals for their 2021 event A Thread of Hope, which is a fundraiser they hold every October in partnership with THREAD, a local boutique.
The theme was Rainbow After the Storm. In the planning process, THREAD hosted a dried floral arranging class for the board members to participate in. During the class, we made dried, color blocked pieces that would be featured as the table centerpieces for the event. In addition to the colorful centerpieces, I created a rainbow installation of dried and painted baby’s breath that was suspended from the ceiling alongside clear umbrellas. It was an inspiring event and we’re already looking forward to this year’s fundraiser!
